Press Release
Let them eat cereal! Al-Ridah Academy and the ILM Foundation feed local Muslims the food of choice.
Al-Ridah Academy, a private Islamic Elementary school in Mission Viejo, hosts a food drive every year before Thanksgiving to feed the hungry. In general, they collect canned food and send it to local food drives. But after the new Principal of Al-Ridah Academy, Angela Collins, contacted Naim Shaw, the Humanitarian guru running the ILM network, a cereal drive commenced. Mr. Shaw explained that the people who are helped by ILM Foundation unanimously prefer cereal to canned food. "It's easier to give a box of cereal to someone without a kitchen. If you are hungry, canned food requires a can opener, a pan, and a stove," explained Ms. Collins.
This year Al-Ridah Academy, an Islamic Elementary school offering private Islamic Education from Preschool through 3rd grade, collected 67 boxes of cereals to help feed those in need.
Mr. Abdur Rahman with the ILM Foundation came to Al-Ridah on Wednesday, November 9th, to collect all of the cereal boxes brought by generous Al-Ridah parents and students. To his surprise, Ms. Collins took him on a tour of each of the classrooms to meet the students behind the drive. Every student from Preschool through 3rd grade said a special thank you to the ILM Foundation for organizing this cereal drive to benefit Masjid Ibaadillah in Los Angeles and to Abdur Rahman for transporting the overflowing pile of cereal boxes to those in need.
